January 24—Commissioner Brett Perlman met with students from the fifth grade class of Dickinson Elementary School in Sugar Land today to accept a $1,000 donation for low-income Texans that the children had collected.
Students at Dickinson, who learned that a “penny saved is a penny earned” from Texas Electric Choice spokesman Ben Franklin, saved more than 100,000 pennies in three weeks to help fellow Texans in need.
Also on hand at the event were Cyndy Garza-Roberts (right), director of community relations for Reliant Energy; Linda Lane, principal of Dickinson Elementary (back, center); and Pam Chilo of the Neighborhood Centers, the local agency that works with Reliant to distribute electricity assistance funds to low-income families in the Houston area.
